PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE -APRIL 2009

Greetings,

We are just weeks away from our biggest annual charitable effort – the 12th Annual CREW/Safe Connections Golf Tournament, which will be held on June 22 at Forest Hills Country Club. It’s not only a signature event for CREW-St. Louis and the entire St. Louis commercial real estate industry, the golf outing also provides critical funding to Safe Connections.

This organization serves as a lifeline to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. To date, your past efforts have raised more than one-half million dollars to support Safe Connection’s mission of creating a safer community for women and teens.

Please consider all you can do to support this worthy cause. Times are tough but think how difficult it must be for so many women who depend on Safe Connections to find a way out from the cycle of violence that cripples their lives.

That’s why I ask that you encourage your colleagues to play in this tournament. We also need support on several other fronts:

    • Donations for our wine barrel raffle
    • Items for our Silent and Live Auctions
    • Sponsorships: We have some very reasonable sponsorship packages that provide great recognition while supporting a worthy cause.

For more information on donations and sponsorships, please contact our Golf Chairs: Linda Luecken, (636) 397-1634 and Colleen West, (314) 962-3145.

June will be a busy month:

We are looking forward to hosting the 2009 CREW Network Spring Council Meeting, which will take place from June 4-6 at the fabulous Chase Park Plaza. Many other chapters look to St. Louis as a leader and role model in CREW’s success. This event gives members from around the country a chance to see our involvement and commitment firsthand. Simply put, it’s a showcase for our chapter and our city.
Everyone should make plans to attend the joint luncheon between our members and CREW Network delegates. This will take place on Friday, June 5, from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Chase. Check your Inbox for forthcoming details.

You can also play a role in this effort by volunteering to serve in a number of areas. In particular, we still need hostesses for Friday Dine Arounds (June 5). For more information on how you may become involved in the Spring Council Meeting, please contact Nancy Cripe at (314) 743-1849.

Our ability to work together continues to build on our chapter’s commitment to the community. This was witnessed in the recent CREW Careers day. Young ladies from Mathews-Dickey and the St. Louis Public Schools spent a full day learning the ins-and-outs of commercial development from concept to completion. The weather was as perfect as the presentation, and the Delmar Loop, “One of the 10 Greatest Streets in America” – was an ideal setting. The hands-on workshop put the girls to the test when they were asked to develop plans for vacant land. The winning team rose to the challenge by proposing a pet-friendly coffee shop, Moonrise Spa, to complement the area’s new hotel and a teen recreational center.

Many thanks to all the CREW members who made presentations and helped make the fourth annual CREW Careers day such a success. I extend special thanks to Kristy Siebert and Karen Karowski for all their hard work in overseeing the planning and execution of this event.

It’s a pleasure to welcome three new members this month to CREW-St. Louis:

    • Susan Chapman, Heartland Bank
    • Susan Sauer, Duffe-Nuernberger
    • Carrie Hermann, Jones Lang LaSalle

Mark your calendars for our next meeting on Tuesday, May 19, at the Greenbriar Country Club from 4:30-7 p.m which will be one of our annual Members-only meetings. Representatives from Safe Connections will provide a brief presentation on their services so don't miss it!

Until then, all the best as we continue to find ways to be “Successful Together.”

Best regards,
Amy Garrison
CREW-St. Louis Chapter President
